Literature Text

I'd never seen koi.
He spent a quarter on feed,
let me toss it in the pond
so I'd hear them splash,
then purchased an ornament
in the shop for me to hold.
Written December 3, 2015. When TheMaidenInBlack posted her forum topic challenging the lit community to write their best haiku about Christmas decorations, I couldn't help agreeing with her argument. But immediately I thought of the sweetest moment between Jordan and me while visiting the Japanese Gardens in Fort Worth last December. Not that this is a very traditionally Christmasy poem anyway, but whatevs. ;) It's taken me well over two weeks to write this because I wanted to find a form (thanks, the-haiku-club) that would allow syllabically for everything I needed to say. I chose the form called choka. I'm still not a hundred percent pleased with it and may tweak it some, but I'm glad I captured this memory in verse. Jordan is always coloring my world by creating points of reference like this, which is one of the infinitely many reasons why I love him.
